Which Port For Which Console
Every USB-C port can supply 12 V / 3 A, so any of them will run a 12 V console adapter. What differs is the ceiling at higher voltages, so it pays to match the port to the system:
- USB-C1 (100 W) — the highest-draw systems: Wii, Wii U, GameCube, Dreamcast and Saturn.
- USB-C2 and USB-C3 (65 W / 45 W) — mid-range draw, and plenty of headroom for 12 V adapters.
- USB-C4 (30 W) — lower-draw systems: NES, SNES, Mega Drive and TG16 / PC Engine.
- USB-A1 and USB-A2 — 5 V only. Fine for accessories and lighting, but not for USB-C PD console adapters.
Why GaN?
Gallium nitride switches far more efficiently than the silicon used in older chargers, so it wastes less energy as heat. That efficiency is what allows this much output from a unit small enough to sit beside a console rather than behind it.
Good to Know
The headline 270 W is the peak capability; with all six ports in use the combined output is shared as listed above. Every console power adapter has its own voltage and current requirement — check that yours is met by the port you plug it into. Sold as a single charger; USB-C cables are not included.
