A modern replacement for the internal power supply in an original PlayStation 1. The stock PSU is a substantial mains unit that sits inside the console generating heat, and after 25-odd years its ageing capacitors are a common cause of a PS1 that will not power on, resets during play, or turns temperamental once it warms up. This board replaces it outright and runs the console from a USB-C Power Delivery charger instead.

Power delivery has come a long way since these machines were engineered. A USB-C PD supply is smaller, cooler and far better regulated than anything available when the console was new — and when it eventually needs replacing, it is an off-the-shelf part rather than a hunt for a decades-old brick.

Fits The Original “Fat” PlayStation — Not The PSone

This board is made for the full-size original PlayStation, the model with the internal mains power supply. The later slimline PSone uses an external power brick and a completely different arrangement, so this is not the part for that console — for a PSone, our USB-C power cable covers it. If you are unsure which model you have, the original is the large squared-off unit with a mains cable going straight into the back.

Requires A USB-C PD Charger

The board draws 12 V at 3 A over USB-C Power Delivery, and a charger that cannot supply that exact profile will not run the console — plenty of otherwise-capable USB-C chargers skip 12 V altogether, or offer it only at reduced current. On our 200 W six-port charger use PD1; the 270 W supplies it on all four USB-C ports. Not sure what your charger can do? Our USB-C PD power meter reads the real figures back, port by port.

Why Replace The Original Supply

  • Stable, regulated output — a consistent supply without the voltage sag behind crashes and spontaneous resets on a tired PSU
  • Runs cooler than the original supply, removing a real heat source from inside the console
  • Modern, replaceable power source — power comes from a standard USB-C charger you can replace off the shelf
  • Takes the mains-side components out of the console entirely

Specifications

  • Output: 12 V / 3 A DC, regulated
  • Input: USB-C Power Delivery, 12 V / 3 A required
  • Fitment: original PlayStation 1 (Fat), in place of the internal power supply unit
  • Output type: pure DC — the USB-C port is a power input, not a data or charging port

Installation

This is an internal replacement, so fitting it means opening the console and removing the original power supply. The board is shaped to sit where it does and connects to the console's existing power connector, with no modification to the motherboard.
