A short pigtail adapter that turns the USB-C cables you already own into a retro console power lead. One end plugs into your console; the other is a USB-C socket — so the cable, and how long it is, is entirely your choice.

Use The USB-C Cables You Already Have

Most of us have a drawer full of USB-C leads. This adapter puts them to work: run any USB-C to USB-C cable from your charger into the adapter's socket, and the console is powered. No new cable to buy, and nothing extra to find room for.

It also leaves the length up to you — use whichever lead suits your arrangement, and swap it whenever your setup changes. The adapter simply stays on the console.

Use a USB-C to USB-C cable: a USB-A to USB-C lead cannot negotiate Power Delivery, so it will not run the console. Prefer everything in one piece? Our USB-C Power Cable for Retro Consoles is a single 1.8 m lead in these same five versions.

Which Version Do I Need?

Pick by the connector your console takes. If you are powering several systems, add one of each — select a version, set the quantity, add it to your cart, then come back and choose the next.

Nintendo GameCube — 12 V

Fits DOL-001 and DOL-101.

Nintendo Wii — 12 V

Powers the console itself; it is not a charger for controllers or accessories.

Nintendo Wii U — 15 V

Powers the console itself. The GamePad has its own separate charger and is not covered by this adapter.

Choosing A Charger

Each version asks its charger for a different profile, and this is the specification to check before ordering. Total wattage on the box is not the measure — plenty of high-output chargers skip 12 V entirely, or offer it only at reduced current.

  • 9 V versions: any USB-C PD charger offering a 9 V profile. All three of our chargers do, on their USB-C ports.
  • 12 V versions: needs 12 V at 3 A. On the 200 W six-port charger that is PD1 only; the 270 W charger supplies it on all four USB-C ports, and the 1000 W on all eight.
  • 15 V version (Wii U): needs 15 V at 3 A. Use PD1 on the 200 W charger, or USB-C1, C2 or C3 on the 270 W charger, or any USB-C port on the 1000 W.

Not sure what your charger can do? Our USB-C PD power meter reads the real figures back, port by port.

Key Features

  • Use your own USB-C cables — any USB-C to USB-C lead you already have on hand
  • Your choice of length — pair it with whatever cable suits your arrangement, and swap it any time
  • 10–12 cm pigtail — short enough to sit tidily behind the console
  • Built-in LED indicator showing at a glance that power is connected
  • Regulated output for consistent performance, without the voltage sag of a tired original adapter
  • Five versions covering four console families
  • Travels light — far smaller than a period power brick, and it packs with cables you already carry

Good to Know

Consoles with a built-in mains power supply cannot use a DC adapter of any kind — that includes the original full-size PlayStation, the PlayStation 2 (Fat), the Saturn and the Dreamcast. For those we stock internal USB-C power supply boards instead.

Regional versions sometimes differ in their power requirements — note that the Game Gear appears under two different versions depending on where it was sold. If your console is not listed, or you are unsure which revision you have, get in touch before ordering and we will check it with you. Neither a USB-C cable nor a charger is included.
